I (she/siya/siyac) thank my Ancestors and Creators for the opportunities and lessons I’ve learned. In particular, I show special gratitude to my Father and Mother. Agyamanak la unay, Nanang ko ken Tatang ko.

I steward my Ancestors’ lands, now colonized as The Philippines. I am a settler on lands stolen from the Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Bodéwadmiakiwen, Myaamia, and numerous Indigenous nations — the place currently colonized as Chicago. I am a settler on lands stolen from the Seminole, Timucua, Miccosukee, and Mascogoher nations — the place currently colonized as Florida.

I have had many teachers, formal and informal. I earned a Master's in Science from the Medill School at Northwestern University in Integrated Marketing Communications. I studied under Faith Adiele at the 2017 Voices of Our Nations workshop, the country’s oldest workshop for writers of color. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, with a dual degree in English Writing - Poetry and Business. I earned an Asian Studies Certificate, with four years of Tagalog and a study abroad experience at the Ateneo de Manila University via the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I am an ambassador for Filipino food, writing about the diverse and rich subject since 2011. I was invited to the official White House Celebration of Filipino American History Month. The celebration was hosted by the Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, under President Barack Obama in 2016.

In May 2014 and in October 2018, I walked the 1000+ year old, 500-mile pilgrimage through Northern Spain, the Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances or French Route).
